It all began with a simple idea in 2014 to run a farm stay in Tasmania. One part of Cressy House needed some repairs and maintenance. Margit, who moved from Denmark to Tasmania in 2008 saw the potential in the history of the homestead, the beautiful convict outbuildings, gorgeous Wester Tiers mountain views and the Macquarie river surrounding the land. That combination as well as still being a working family farm with Henry being the 6th generation farmer would become an attractive stay for guests from near and far away, from the apple island (Van Diemen Island) to the main land of Australia and International. A local builder and his team arrived and Margit was in charge of the interior where styling ideas that teach Australians about the Danish culture of comfort and cosiness ‘hygge’ was incorporated. Two years later, in 2016, Cressy House Estate Farm Stay opened up and the first guests were welcomed in May and it is now run as a popular country stay in the self-contained and private guest wing of the 1827-built Cressy House.

Today Henry and Margit live with their three sons, Noah (14), Oscar (12) and Edward (9) where Henry runs the 1170-hectare property and 5500 breeding ewes while Margit runs the accommodation side of the business.
